“Statistics: An Introduction for Beginners” is a course specifically designed for students who desire a basic working knowledge of statistics. The basic ideas of descriptive statistical methods are presented, including frequency distribution, measures of location and variation. The course also includes permutation, combination and rules of probability, together with well-known probability distributions such as binomial, Poisson, geometric, hyper-geometric and multinomial. Other topics include data comparison and analysis of variance.

After completing “Statistics: An Introduction for Beginners”, students will be equipped with a basic understanding of the following:

  • How to determine descriptive statistics from data
  • How to use the basic concepts of probability theory
  • How to compare population means
  • How to analyze variance
  • How to apply the above principles using examples and case studies

  • Although no prior experience or coursework is required, a basis knowledge of mathematics is recommended

Students will be assigned 5 homework assignments, and 1 final exam.
