Process Safety Management (PSM) Online Course & Certificate

Process Safety Management (PSM) involves ensuring that potential hazards are identified and mitigation measures are in place to prevent unwanted release of energy or hazardous chemicals into locations that could expose employees and others to serious harm.

The Process Safety Management course introduces PSM concepts and how to develop an effective PSM program. We review the comprehensive program that integrates technologies, procedures, and management practices used to evaluate the whole chemical process. Topics such as process design, process technology, process changes, operational and maintenance activities and procedures, non-routine activities and procedures, emergency preparedness plans and procedures, training programs, and other elements that affect the process will be studied.

After completing Process Safety Management, students will be equipped with a basic understanding of the following:

• Basic performance-based requirements of PSM standards
• Terminology for communicating PSM requirements throughout the organization
• Specific guidelines for developing written programs tailored for each PSM element
• How to avoid costly implementation mistakes
• For each element 
• – How to begin implementation at your company 
• – Additional training necessary for implementation of specific elements

No prerequisites are required.

 Students will be assigned 5 homework assignments, and 1 final exam for each course.
