This course will introduce students to the role that transportation systems play in creating a competitive advantage for a global supply chain. The course will emphasize the operation, design, and analysis of effective transportation systems. 

 

After completing Transportation Systems students will be equipped with a basic understanding of the following:

  • The role that transportation plays in a global supply chain.
  • The major transportation modes.
  • Inbound versus Outbound
  • Domestic versus International
  • Modal control (Rail, TL, LTL, Parcel, Air, etc.)
  • Transportation and distribution operations and associated documentation.
  • Global freight flows and international trade regulations.
  • Methods to develop optimal transportation strategies for supply chain partners.
  • Methods to critically analyze and mitigate the risks associated with a transportation strategy. 

 

This course is designed for professional currently employed or seeking employment in transportation and logistics. No previous coursework or experience required.

 Students will be assigned 5 homework assignments, and 1 final exam for each course.
